FRANCE

France is home to Champagne, Bordeaux and Burgundy amongst others. Rarely surpassed in terms of pedigree, Bordeaux is considered to be the jewel in France’s crown. Admired by connoisseurs, fought over by investors, the great chateaux of Bordeaux reign supremely in the world of wine. Here Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc dominate red wine production and the sweetest, most desirable wines from Sauternes seduce devotees. Further south shows the rise in young quality-conscious winemakers keen to make their mark. The Languedoc is a perfect example of an appellation striving to meet the challenges of twenty first century wine drinkers by exploiting the true potential of indigenous grape varieties and the diversity of its terroirs.

PORTUGAL

Port is Portugal’s most famous export. It is produced in the north of the country along the stunningly beautiful River Douro which runs from the Spanish border west dividing the twin cities of Oporto and Vila Nova de Gaia into the Atlantic. Taylor’s, Fonseca and Croft are three of the most revered names in the Port industry. The Fladgate Partnership is a family company which owns all three brands. It is both a pioneer of modern Port and the dynasty which created its remarkable history.

SOUTH AMERICA

The countries of Chile and Argentina offer great conditions for growing vines and in recent years, the quality of the wine has also started to soar. Argentina has increasingly attracted attention from the Old World, including innovative French winemaker Michel Rolland. Seeing the potential of exploring high altitude vineyards around the pre-eminent region of Mendoza, Rolland joined with other top Bordeaux producers to create Clos de Los Siete, one of Argentina's most exciting modern wines.
