About

Sue Glasgow, founder of Spear Communications

Sue Glasgow, the founder of Spear Communications, has over 20 years experience in the wine industry. With a diverse range of skills including buying, selling and marketing, Sue brings unique expertise to the PR business which spans France, Spain, Portugal, USA, South Africa, Australia and South America. Her special relationship with France and Spain was formed during her 6 years in Bordeaux working with Christopher Cannan of Europvin. She regularly tasted with Robert Parker in Bordeaux and was instrumental in setting up promotional tours for Vega Sicilia, La Rioja Alta and Lustau in the USA.

Since founding Spear Communications in 1997, Sue has pioneered generic wine campaigns for the Port Wine Institute, Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux and Rioja in the UK with remarkable success. Her skill as a communicator, educator and organiser has transformed market perceptions for each of her special clients resulting in accolades from the industry.

In June 2003, Sue was nominated by The Fladgate Partnership as an honorary member of the Confraria do Vinho do Porto in recognition of her services to the Port industry.

“It’s really hard to fault Sue’s work at Spear. She’s accurate, organised and efficient. As a journalist I know that she can be trusted to answer the most obscure questions or to find the right person who can, all of it at short notice. She understands about having to work to tight schedules. Lest all if this makes her sound like a machine, let me emphasise that most important of all, she’s a pleasure to work with. Meeting her at a tasting or an event brightens up the day.” Sarah Jane Evans MW

“Thought I would just drop you a note to let you know how impressed I was with your agency’s grasp of our information requirements for Food and Travel. Clearly you not only know the wine market intimately but also enjoy (within moderation of course) wine itself. It makes such a difference to deal with a PR who sends us appropriate and relevant releases to make our lives easier and, frankly, ensures we always read anything you send through. Too many other companies throw ‘mud against the wall’ in the mistaken belief that some might stick. The reality is their releases usually end up at the bottom of the pile.” Gregor Rankin, Publisher, Food & Travel
